Smoking can tend to increase when the candle is starting to burn close to the bottom of a container because it is harder for oxygen to reach the flame. After burning, my wick has a “ball of black” on it, which crumbles down. What is this? TOP
This “ball of black” is called mushrooming. All wicks will produce carbon when they are burning; some more than others. This mushrooming effect will be reduced if you make sure to trim your wick down before each time it is burned. Why do I have black soot on my jars? TOP
If you experience black on your jars, your wicks are not being trimmed properly. Black smoke is emitted from a flame, if the flame is too high. Too high of a flame is caused by too long of a wick. If wicks are properly trimmed there is never any reason for black smoke. PLEASE, keep those wicks trimmed! How do I maintain the beauty and color of my candles? TOP
You should keep your candles in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. |
